What Else is Possible?
/I'm feeling inspired today to share what I believe. That way, you'll know if you are in the right place and if you want to subscribe to my newsletter and receive weekly(ish) support and inspiration on your path to food peace.
It's hard to capture everything, so this list will be incomplete.
This list will also change often because we are always changing. Change is about the only thing we can count on.
It doesn't mean you are fickle or stupid or indecisive if you change what you believe. I mean, you could still believe the world is flat if you want to, but times change and as we learn and grow and evolve our beliefs will as well.
So here goes.
I believe that anything is possible.
I believe that "we can't because we don't know how" is an unacceptable answer when we want to change something.
I believe that the body is capable of healing itself, of anything. We may not know how to harness this at will yet, but I believe it's possible.
I believe we are powerful beings who haven't fully tapped into our full power yet.
I believe love and compassion are the guiding forces of the universe.
I also believe in the power of the heart and know that we have not tapped into it's potential either.
I believe in "both/and" - meaning two things can be very true at the same time. For example, you can want to lose weight and be grateful for your body at the same time.
I believe we have an inner wisdom that knows what is good for us.
I believe that many of us have lost the ability to listen to that wisdom and I believe that we can get it back.
I believe that messages from our collective conditioning limit us by telling us what is or isn't possible.
I believe that believing something is possible is more important than knowing how to get there. If you think it can't be done, it won't be.
I believe the world is inherently a good place and people are inherently good-natured as well.
I believe we always have choices.
I believe in openness to new ideas. We don't know what we don't know until we do. I still can't figure out how cell phones work but they do - so what else is possible?
I believe that to say that "the science doesn't support it" is missing the boat. So? Did that stop the great inventors of our time?
I believe I create my own experience through my thoughts, feelings, emotions, and yes, beliefs!
I believe aging can feel good and much of what we suffer from in life would be reduced if we stopped telling ourselves it's going to happen.
I believe I am guided and supported by forces I can't name or see.
I believe we are made of energy (and this is science actually) and the more we see the world from that perspective, the better off we will be.
I believe that trying to change our behaviors, how we eat and how we move, is a fruitless endeavor all by itself.
I believe understanding what drives our behaviors is the key to change. (Many people believe this - this is the basis of coaching - but it seems really important to reiterate.)
Think about that last one for a second. How many times have you beaten yourself up for eating a certain way or not moving when you thought you should? Or not accomplishing something?
It's a huge waste of time to keep setting SMART goals for what you want to achieve when your inner psychology and lived experience might be holding you back the whole time and beating yourself up about it only makes it worse.
I believe in eliminating "should" and "have to" from our vocabularies.
I believe everyone's definition of success is unique and special and does not have to look like anyone else's.
I believe the old paradigm of force, strive, hustle and work yourself to illness is shifting and it's about time.
I believe we can all achieve way more with a paradigm of flow, alignment, and inspired action. (And if you don't know what that means - let me know!)
So ultimately, I believe that our mind, body, emotions, and spirit need to be integrated in order to fully reach our potential. This happens when we heal, open and allow with curiosity and compassion. It's not something that we need to force.
And "full potential" is a way of being and feeling, it doesn't mean you have to be an award-winning poet or a CEO or PTO president or anything other than who you are.
That feels like a good stopping point for today. I'd love to know how this lands and I'd love to know - what do you believe? Feel free to send me an email and let me know!
